A prototype table containing related CES codes and titles (CESCODE.DBF) can be found in the \NONSTD folder. The CESNAICS files' content is limited to information we could get from the BLS web site. This first edition contains only seasonally adjusted data, with no annual averages. We expect the content to both the CES data and lookup table to improve over time. See the WHATSNEW.TXT file in the \NATIONAL folder for file names, etc. 04/09/01 We've added the monthly updates to the CES and CPS national estimates to the \NATIONAL folder. The files EEUPDATE.TXT and EEUPDATE.DBF contain national updates for the CES table. Files named LABFOR11 and LABFOR20 contain updates for the LABFORCE table in versions 1.1 and 2.0 respectively. 03/22/01 We've modified the contents of the national ES-202 files (INDUS11 and INDUS20 files in the \NATIONAL folder) slightly. The width for the field CONTRIB was too narrow to contain the most aggrigated national data. The contents of the field included an exponent in some of the records in the previous version. We've replaced the BEA income files in the state folders. The text version of the file BEAINC11 included fields that had been transposed. Those who downloaded the DBF version shouldn't encounter any difficulties. Those who downloaded either version of BEAINCOM, the table formatted for version 2.0 of the database should also be fine. The only file with difficulties was BEAINC11.TXT. 03/14/01 We've added monthly national labor force, employment and unemployment estimates from the Current Population Survey to the files available for downloading from the /ALMIS/NATIONAL folder. The data are formatted for use with the ALMIS LABFORCE table. LABFOR11.DBF and LABFOR11.TXT contain the variables used in Version 1.1 of the database. LABFOR20.DBF and LABFOR20.TXT are for use with Version 2.0. 03/09/01 We've placed the monthly update to the CES table in the NATIONAL directory. Look for the file EEUPDATE.DBF. 03/01/01 We've replaced the server used for this service (ftp.xwalkcenter.org). While we're confident that all of the ALMIS Database files found on the old server have been successfully migrated to the new one, if you find any significant differences or omissions, please let us know. 02/01/01 We've updated the text versions of the SICCODE, CIPCODE, GEOT ONETCD98, SOCCODE and OESCODE tables in the VER21/TXT/LOOKUP directory. Our earlier attempts to create these text files omitted the contents of the memo/long text fields. We've also populated the OESXSOC tables in the VER21/TXT/XWALK and VER21/FOX26/XWALK directories. 01/24/01 We've added two data series to the files available in the NATIONAL directory. The files INDUS11 and INDUS20 contain the 1999 national ES-202 file containing employment and wages covered by the Unemployment Insurance program. The files are formatted for the INDUSTRY table in versions 1.1 and 2.0 of the ALMIS Database respectively. We've also placed a series of files which contain monthly employment and wage estimates from the Current Employment Statistics program. The files are formatted for use in the CES table in version 2.0 of the database. See the files README.TXT and CES.TXT in the national directory for more information about the files. 12/29/00 We've placed updated files containing counts of persons leaving the military by occupation, state and county in the state directories. The files are formatted for use in the PROGCOMP tables in versions 1.1 and 2.0 of the ALMIS Database. Both delimited text and FoxPro versions of the files are available. Occupational choices include both the SOC and DOT. NOTES: 1. The count of persons included in the file is over 170,000. 2. You should download only one of the various versions of the file. All persons leaving the armed forces are included in each file. The only differences are ALMIS Database versions and civilian taxonomy used. 3. If you download the FoxPro version of the file, be sure to also download the corresponding memo file (*.fpt) 4. Check the README.TXT file in your state's directory for help in associating file names with database versions and civilian classifications used. 5. The time period covered by the data is 7/1/99 throuth 6/30/00 12/12/00 We've placed updated BEA income tables for versions 1.1 and 2.X in the state directories. State and national estimates were revised by BEA in September to reflect changes in the National Income and Products Accounts. The new files reflect those changes. We've also placed BEA population tables in the state directories. 12/08/00 We've completed the migration of state-specific data files to the state folders. Files containing Department of Defense, Job Corps and Census data have been moved. 10/12/00 We've added state-specific data files containing BEA Income and apprenticeship program completers formatted for use with Version 1.1 of the ALMIS Database to the state directories described below in our 10/03/00 update. 10/03/00 We've begun restructuring the directories on this server. Two new directories, STATES and NATIONAL have been created. The STATES folder contains a directory for each state. We'll use these directories for state-specific data files we develop in support of the ALMIS Database. We've recently added updated population, BEA income and apprenticeship program completer files to these directories. See the README.TXT file in any of the state directories for more information. We'll update the contents of these directories as we update more of the state-specific files. The NAIONAL directory will contain national data files. The only file in that directory now contains the national projections for the period 1998-2008. 04/19/00 We've added a file, OES.EXE, to the ALMIS folder which contains potential enhancements to the contents of states' OES lookup tables. The archive contains two tables. OEPCODE.DBF contains OES-code equivalents for occupations used in the latest national projections. Variables include the code and long and short titles. OESCODE.DBF contains a more complete listing of OES occupations than the file we've distributed in the past, including short titles for all occupations. The files were furnished by Jackie Keener of North Carolina and result from the work of ALMIS Database staff from a number of states. IMPORTANT: View the README.TXT file for cautions about the use of the files. 03/20/00 We've two series of data formatted for versions 1.1 and 2.0 of the ALMIS Database. The new files contain the national employment projections for 1998-2008 and counts for Department of Defense separatees. The files, locations and contents are described below: 1. Employment projections: Tables for Version 1.1 include INDDIR, OCCDIR, INDPRJ, OCCPRJ, OCCPAT and STAFFPAT. Tables populated for Version 2.0 include INDDIR, OCCDIR, INDPRJ, OCCPRJ and IOMATRIX. The contents of the files are based on files furnished by Jackie Keener of North Carolina. Look for FoxPro 2.6 and text versions of the files in the following directories: Version 1.1: FoxPro: /almis/ver11/fox26/data and /almis/ver11/fox26/lookup (INDDIR and OCCDIR) Text: /almis/ver11/txt/data and /almis/ver11/fox26/lookup (INDDIR and OCCDIR) Version 2.0: FoxPro: /almis/ver20/fox26/data and /almis/ver11/fox26/lookup (INDDIR and OCCDIR) Text: /almis/ver20/txt/data and /almis/ver11/fox26/lookup (INDDIR and OCCDIR) 2. Department of Defense files. The data, furnished by the Defense Manpower Data Center (DMDC) includes counts of all persons leaving the military by occupation, state and county. The period covered is July 1 1997 to December 31 1998. We've developed versions for use in the SUPPLY table of versions 1.1 and 2.0 of the ALMIS Database. (The only difference between the two versions is the width of the variable PERIODTYPE.) The naming convention used is DODALMXX, where XX represents your state's two-letter postal abbreviation. Both FoxPro and text files have been developed for both ALMIS versions. The files can be found in the data directories referenced above. We're requesting an update for calendar year 1999. Watch this space for further developments. 02/07/00 We've uploaded a large number of files formatted for Version 2.0 of the ALMIS Database. The new files can be found in the /almis/ver20 directory and its subdirectories. The TXT subdirectory contains delimited text versions of the files. The FOX26 folder contains FoxPro 2.6 versions, and the VISFOX directory contains the ALMIS Database in a Visual FoxPro database. We've made a number of changes and enhancements to the new versions of the files: 1. We've set up table relationships to simulate nearly all of the foreign key relationships in the database in our Visual FoxPro version. The VFP database we set up for versions 1.0 and 1.1 had a much more limited set of relationships. 2. We've populated the new ALLCODES table with codes taken from the lookup tables in our version of the database. 3. We've brought the final 1998 SOC codes, titles and descriptions into the SOCCODE table. 4. We've populated the OESGROUP table and added the respective values to the OESCODE table. We intend to continue to make incremental improvements to the contents of a number of these tables, and to add content to others. Check the contents of this file regularly for the latest news. 01/19/00 We've made a number of changes to the directories containing ALMIS database files: 1. We've restructured the directories, providing separate directories for versions 1.0, 1.1 and 2.0 of the database. The ver10 directory contains only the Visual FoxPro version of the database. The ver11 and ver20 folders contain separate directories containing text, FoxPro 2.6 and Visual FoxPro files. At this time, the ver20 directory does not contain a large number of files (see below). 2. On 1/11/00 we added new files containing counts of Job Corps program graduates by occupation by state. These files were designed to be included in the SUPPLY table. Look for files named jcalmXX (where XX represents your state's two-letter postal abbreviation) in the /ver11/txt/data, /ver11/fox26/data, /ver20/txt/data and /ver20/fox26/data directories. 3. We've updated the BEA income files. Look for files named beaincXX in the directories listed above. 4. We've begun developing a Visual FoxPro database containing version 2.0 of the database structure. Once this is complete, we'll begin creating more of the crosswalk, lookup and data tables in the /ver20/txt and /ver20/fox26 directories. watch this space for more information as files become available. 01/11/00 Two documents relating to Version 2.0 of the ALMIS Database have been added to this directory. The file dbv2_010699.doc contains the entire database structure. The file chan2_0.doc lists changes between versions 1.1 and 2.0. Watch this space for information about our revised directory structure in support of the new version. 11/30/99 The census incomd tables (CENINCOM) in the /almis/fox26 and /almis/txt directories have been replaced. Data for 1998 have been added. These files were update by the Census Bureau on their web site on 11/9. IMPORTANT: The contents of the files have changed significantly. The files formerly on our server expressed household income in nominal terms. The current files have been adjusted to 1998 dollars. For more information, see the Census Bureau site which contains the data at: http://www.census.gov/hhes/income/histinc/h08.html NCDC Staff have contacted the Census Bureau in search of data consistent with those we've provided in the past. Watch this space for further developments. 08/13/99 Two crosswalk tables have been modified. The tables DOTXCIP and OESXDOT contained extra records with a DOTCODE value of 070101XXX. These records, which were created as part of the NOICC Master Crosswalk, are not needed in the ALMIS Database and should be deleted. The FoxPro 2.6, text and Visual FoxPro versions of the file on this server have been updated. 06/14/99 The census labor force tables (CENLABOR) in the /almis/fox26/data and /almis/txt/data directories have been replaced. The earlier versions of the files contained multiple records for some occupations at all levels of geography. The source Census Bureau files differentiated among industries or class of worker for these occupations, and we did NOT create totals for them in the tables we made available on this server. The revised files have been summed by geographic area and occupation. 06/10/99 The census incomd tables (CENINCOM) in the /almis/fox26 and /almis/txt directories have been replaced. The earlier versions of the files lacked values for the MEDHSRANK variable. Those rankings have been calculated for all states and are included in the new files. 05/15/99 NOICC's Prototype Units of Analysis (Cluster) files have been adapted for use in the ALMIS Database. The files are available for downloading from this subdirectory in the file CLUSTERS.EXE. See the MS Word document CLUSTERS.DOC for more information about the files. 05/14/99 The ALMIS OESCODE lookup tables on this server have been updated to include the Bureau of Labor Statistics' 1998 OES Survey Dictionary. Both the text and DBF versions have been updated, along with the OES table in the Visual FoxPro version. 04/09/99 The ALMIS Database population files on this server have been updated to include the estimates for 1998 released last month. Note that the database contained in the VISFOX directory was created using Microsoft Visual FoxPro, Version 5.0. A copy Version 1.o of the Visual FoxPro database is also available for downloading as ALMIS10.EXE. Note that we have removed the database structure documents from this server. Changes to the ALMIS Database files found here are of two types: changes in structure to the tables, and changes to the standardized values used in a number of lookup tables, as documented in the data dictionary's appendix. 12/21/98 A number of state-specific files relating to the ALMIS Database SUPPLY table have been placed on this server. The data come from two sources: the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training (BAT). The DoD files contain counts of persons leaving the armed forces by state, county and occupation. The BAT files include counts of those enrolled in and completing apprenticeship programs. Locations and naming conventions of the files follow: DOD Files: DODALMxx.DBF in /FOX26/DATA (xx=State Postal Abbreviation) DODALMxx.TXT in /TXT/DATA BAT Files: APPALMxx.DBF in /FOX26/DATA APPALMxx.TXT in /TXT/DATA (NOTE: The apprenticeship files contain records for some occupations for which there were no completers. These records are included because there was other activity, recorded in the variables ACT, CAN and EOF). Records with no completers should be deleted before the file is brought into the ALMIS Database. 10/28/98 A new file, NATPROJ.ZIP, has been added to this directory. This file, developed by Jackie Keener of North Carolina, contains the national employment projections reformatted for use with ALMIS Database.
