We believe that all 4,000+ files made the migration successfully. If you find differences between what's on this server and what was here in the past, please let us know. NOTE: The video files which were temporarily removed on 2/13/01 have been restored. 02/27/01 Employment and wage estimates for 1999 from the Occupational Employment Statistics (OES) program are now available and have been placed in the /download/oeswage.99 directory on this server. See the README.TXT file in that directory for more information. 02/13/01 Due to space constraints, we've temporarily removed the career video files from the /download/video directory. We're planning a server upgrade and hope to have the video files available again in late February or early March. Watch this space for more information. 01/22/01 On 1/19, the Bureau of Labor Statistics made the 1999 national Occupational Employment Statistics (OES) employment and wage estimates available for downloading (see http://stats.bls.gov/oes/oes_data.htm). The downloadable file available from the BLS site is formatted for use with MS Excel. The same Excel file, as well as a FoxPro .DBF file containing the same information are available for downloading from this server at (ftp://ftp.xwalkcenter.org/download/oeswage.99). State and metropolitan area data will be released in the near future. NOTE: These are the first data released through the OES program which utilize the new Standard Occupational Classification (SOC)-based OES classification. Because of this change in the classification, the file contains indicators for those occupations which are strictly compatible with the older classification and for which three years' data were used for making the estimates. 11/07/00 On 9/15, the Bureau of Labor Statistics announced some changes to the 1998 Standard Occupational Classification (SOC). We've incorporated those changes in new files found in our \DOWNLOAD\NEWSOC directory. See the file "file information" in that directory for file names, etc. See the file "socnew.txt" also in that directory, for details about the changes to the classification. The announcement of the changes can be found on the World Wide Web at http://stats.bls.gov/soc/socnew.htm 06/30/00 A file linking the 1998 Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) to military occupations has been uploaded to the \DOWNLOAD\XWALKS directory. Look for the file XWALK99.MDB. The file was developed by the Department of Defense. 03/24/00 Revised files containing Occupational Employment Statistics (OES) employment and wage estimates have been placed on the server. Minor revisions to some of the wage estimates for California, Oregon and the District of Columbia (and consequently to national estimates) were made due to those areas' minimum wage levels being significantly higher than the federal minimum wage. Employment estimates were not affected. Virtually all (99%) of the revisions were within the published sampling error range for the estimates. However, the changes for some occupations were more significant. Look in the directory /download/oeswage.98 for the revised files. ALL 1998 OES wage files previously on the server have been removed. An updated set of replacement DBF files should become available for downloading in early April. 03/20/00 Files containing Occupational Employment Statistics (OES) employment and wage estimates for metropolitan statistical areas have been placed on this server. Look in the /download/oeswage.98 folder. The files are named MSA98_XX, where XX represents your state's two-letter postal abbreviation. The data for each MSA is included only in the file for the area's primary state. For example, data for the Omaha MSA is included in the Nebraska file, even though the area contains one Iowa county. The file MSA_ALL.EXE contains all of the individual files. Since the variable names and file contents may vary slightly at different levels of geography, we've included separate documents describing the files' contents: MSAVARS.DOC, STATVARS.DOC and USVARS.DOC We've also placed files containing counts of Department of Defense separatees, formatted for use with NOICC's Occupational and Labor Market Information Database (OLMID), on the server. Look in the /DOWNLOAD/OLMID folder for files named DODOLMXX, where XX represents your state's two-letter postal abbreviation. The data relate to the period July 1997 through December 1998. We're about to request an update for calendar 1999. Watch this space for updates. 03/07/00 Files containing information from the Bureau of Labor Statistics' 2000-2001 Occupational Outlook Handbook publication have been placed in the /download/ooh0001 directory on this server. The files, which contain virtually all of the written copy from the OOH publication are available as RTF (Rich Text Format) files. See the file "file information" for a description of the contents of the RTF files. 02/10/00 Files containing Occupational Employment Statistics (OES) estimates of employment and wage rates by occupation for the U.S. and states for 1998 have been placed on this server. Look in the /download/oeswage.98 directory for the files. See the A_README.TXT file in that directory for more information. We expect that data for Metropolitan Statistical Areas should be available here in early March. 01/24/00 Two resources relating to the 1998 Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) have recently been made available on this server. In the /download/soc98 directory you will find the following files: SOC98AC.EXE: Codes, titles, definitions and illustrative examples of occupational titles for 1998 SOC Occupations. MS Access format. SOC98FP.EXE: Codes, titles, definitions and illustrative examples of occupational titles for 1998 SOC Occupations. MS FoxPto 2.6 format. SOCDOC.TXT: Description of the contents of SOC98AC.EXE and SOC98FP.EXE SOCXOES.XLS: Crosswalk linking the 1998 SOC to the 1999 SOC-based Occupational Employment Statistics (OES) and the 1998 OES. 01/03/00 FoxPro and MS Access versions of files containing codes, titles and definitions from the final 1998 Standard Occupational Classification have been added to this server. See the /download/soc98 directory. 11/15/99 The MS Access version of the NOICC Master Crosswalk (XW43AC.EXE) has been revised to include records which were not imported when the original file was created. 08/18/99 Occupational Employment Statistics (OES) wage estimates for Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs) are now available for downloading from this server. Go to the /DOWNLOAD/OESWAGE directory. Files are available by state. The files contain the respective states' postal abbreviation. For example, MSA_FL.DBF contains data for Florida's metropolitan areas. The file MSA_ALL.EXE contains data for all 334 metropolitan areas. Within the state files, an MSA's data can be found only in the state file for the area's primary state. For example, information for the Omaha NE-IA MSA will be found only in MSA-NE.DBF, even though the area includes one Iowa county. Records are included at the end of each file which describe the file's contents. 07/26/99 The Defense Manpower Data Center (DMDC) of the Department of Defense has released the 1999 version of their Military Occupational and Training Data resource. This database contains descriptive information about clusters or groups of military occupations (e.g., Finance and Accounting Specialists). Look for the files MOTD99AC.EXE and MOTD99FX.EXE in the /DOWNLOAD/MILITARY subdirectory. See MOTD99.DOC for a description of the file's contents. 07/20/99 The National Center for Education Statistics has released a draft revision to its Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP). Information and a request for your comments can be found at: http://nces.ed.gov/npec/papers/cipPreface.html A copy of the draft manual and related material can be found in the /DOWNLOAD/CIP2000 subdirectory on this server. 03/03/99 In late January, the Bureau of Labor Statistics released files containing employment and wage estimates from the 1997 Occupational Employment Statistics (OES) survey. NCDC staff have downloaded the BLS files, converted them into DBF files and made them available for downloading from the /DOWNLOAD/OESWAGE directory on this server. Files are available for the U.S., all states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands. We've also created a file which contains data for all geographic areas. See the A_README.TXT and "File Information" files in the OESWAGE subdirectory for more information. You can also view the data from the BLS web site at: http://stats.bls.gov/oes/oes_data.htm Questions about the files on this server should be addressed to: Steve Rosenow, Manager National Crosswalk Service Center Department of Education Grimes State Office Building Des Moines, Iowa 50319 Telephone: 515-242-5034 Fax: 515-281-7528 e-mail: steve.rosenow@iowa.gov
